Material tradeoffs
- ChatGPT Health reaches into US hospital records, One Medical, and Function Health, and it sits inside an assistant many people already open daily. Murph's records path is narrower: an Epic import in beta plus uploads and pasted results.
- Wearables reach ChatGPT only through Apple Health on an iPhone, so Android users and people who want direct device connections get less. Murph connects WHOOP, Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, Dexcom, and dozens more directly.
- Health is US only, 18 and older, and unavailable in Codex, and OpenAI says ChatGPT can still make mistakes. Murph does not offer ChatGPT's trend dashboard or its general-purpose help with non-health tasks.
Common questions about Murph and ChatGPT Health
Does ChatGPT Health connect to wearables?
Indirectly. ChatGPT connects to Apple Health on iPhone, and any wearable or fitness app that shares data into Apple Health can reach it that way. OpenAI notes that available fields vary by app and that some proprietary scores may not transfer. Murph offers direct connections to WHOOP, Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, Dexcom, and many other devices, plus Apple Health and Health Connect.
Is my health data used to train OpenAI models?
OpenAI says connected medical records, Apple Health information, and conversations that use them are not used to train its foundation models or target ads, regardless of the training setting you choose. Its Health Privacy Notice adds that a limited number of authorized staff or service providers may access this data to improve safety unless you opt out.
How is ChatGPT Health different from Murph?
ChatGPT Health adds records and Apple Health context to a general assistant that also writes, codes, and plans trips, and it lives in the ChatGPT app. Murph is a health-only assistant in iMessage or Telegram that connects wearables directly, logs meals and symptoms, runs personal experiments, sets reminders, and handles practical health errands. Neither diagnoses or treats.
