The short answer
Choose Murph
Choose Murph if you want help with food and energy without buying another device, or if a Lumen reading is one clue among several. Murph logs meals, reads your wearable data, and helps you pick and revisit a next step. It does not measure fuel use.
Choose Lumen
Pick Lumen when breath readings, metabolic flexibility scores, daily carb guidance, and a device-led routine are what keep you going.
Can Murph and Lumen work together?
Keep Lumen for the breath reading and its device program. Add Murph to talk through the readings you share, compare them with your sleep, food, and labs, and decide whether the routine is worth keeping. There is no claimed direct data connection.

Material tradeoffs
- The useful experience depends on buying the device and using it regularly. Murph skips that, but it cannot produce a breath reading, a fuel use score, or Lumen's daily macro guidance.
- Fuel use and flexibility scores are modeled readings of breath data. They are not direct measurements of fat loss.
- The general macro guidance may not fit pregnancy or several chronic conditions without professional input. A compelling daily score can still deserve less weight than other evidence.
Common questions about Murph and Lumen
What does the Lumen device actually measure?
Lumen measures carbon dioxide in a controlled breath. Its model then infers whether your body is running relatively more on carbohydrate or fat. That output is an inference from breath data, not a direct measurement of every metabolic process.
Can I use Lumen without renewing the membership?
Partly. For devices bought on or after July 30, 2023, Lumen says basic unlimited measurements stay available after you cancel. You lose detailed history, personalized guidance, scores, and other premium features.
Who should get medical advice before using Lumen?
Lumen excludes anyone under 16. It advises talking to a professional if you are pregnant or have diabetes, severe asthma or COPD, kidney disease, cancer, a thyroid condition, or another situation where its general recommendations may not fit.
